Planning a garage and looking for the right electric door drive? Or would you like to fit your existing garage door with an opener? Or replace your current garage door opener with one that saves energy? Whatever you’re looking for... We at Marantec offer long-lasting, energy-saving garage door openers and accessories (such as hand transmitters) that make your life easier. In this article, we’ll show you what you should look for when buying garage door openers and how to find the perfect opener for your garage door.
Here’s the first question: What kind of garage door do you want to fit with an opener? Doors come in various types. Depending on the weight and dimensions of the door, various openers are available.
Up-and-over doors swing outward when opened and are then slid under the garage ceiling. This means that an up-and-over door requires space in front of the garage, but not inside the garage.
Retractable up-and-over doors operate similarly to up-and-over doors, but the door tilts into the garage and does not swing outward during opening or closing. Retractable up-and-over doors are mainly used for underground garages.
Sectional doors are getting more and more popular for garages. The door is divided into several sections that slide under the garage ceiling. The big advantage: In contrast to the up-and-over door or retractable up-and-over door, the sectional door requires no space in or in front of the garage. Single-walled sectional doors are suitable for garages that do not require thermal insulation. Double-walled sectional doors allow good to very good thermal insulation.
Here is the second question you need to answer: How large and heavy is the garage door you need an opener for? It is important to know this information before you buy. It determines which opener is right for your garage door. In the following table, we show you which opener is suitable for which garage door.
For example: If you’re looking for an opener for a up-and-over door that’s 4.5 meters wide and weighs 150 kilograms, the Comfort 270 and Comfort 370 are the ones to choose.

There are different ways to control a Marantec door opener. With a comfortable hand transmitter, directly from a button on the garage door, or even from your smartphone. Depending on the set, the hand transmitters for your garage door controls are already included.
With a hand transmitter (also called a remote control), you can simply and easily open your garage doors from your car. Marantec’s wireless remotes can be easily taught and programmed. In addition to Open and Closed, still other positions (such as ventilation position) can be programmed in. Want to control several garage doors, and not just one? That’s possible too – with a hand transmitter, or remote.
Want to control your garage door easily from your phone? You can do it with maveo – our system for smart garages. Whether from the house or from the car, with the maveo app, you always have maximum flexibility and more control, compared to other systems. For one thing, you can query your door status from anywhere. Just use our maveo connect stick!
Whether it’s a radio code keypad, a wall button or key switch, our buttons and wall transmitters allow you to operate your garage door opener easily, without a hand transmitter or app. They can be placed in the garage, in front of it, or at the entrance to the property. The buttons have their own power supply, or optionally long-lasting batteries.
